Large Akoya pearls with a deep beautiful luster are a rare find. Although somewhat similar to a freshwater pearl, an Akoya pearl is generally bigger, smoother, rounder, and more lustrous. The size and lustrous quality make an Akoya pearl great for matching with multiple stranded necklaces and bracelets.

Pearl collectors and jewelry lovers may find quality Akoya cultured pearl jewelry pieces online. There are dazzling collections fashioned into stud earrings, regular fashion earrings, multiple strand necklaces, pendants, and bracelets. There are many Japanese pearl farms specializing in Akoya cultured pearl jewelry. The first batch of pearls cultured date back to the 1920s. To date, China has also become a quality akoya pearl jewelry producer.

Japan and China are two countries where the smallest pearl-producing mollusk can be found. Akoya cultured pearls are usually white or cream in color, and with overtones of rose or silver.

Beautiful white or rose-colored Akoya pearls look great on fair-skinned individuals. High-quality Akoya pearl jewelry set with 18k gold materials, with little blemish and a deep, beautiful luster, are coveted items.

In ancient times, when a woman owns a pearl necklace, she is considered to be a member of the affluent society. With the difficulty in finding uniform beads for the completion of the jewelry, a pearl necklace is nearly a shot to impossibility. Pearl enthusiasts in the past spend a fortune just to find the missing pearl pieces. With the rise of pearl farms however, a full string of pearls is now possible.

Cultured pearl necklaces make the matching easier. Not only do pearl farms make pearl making easier, they also make pearls more inexpensive. Pearl farmers select choice oysters in the production of the gem. The high quality oysters will be propagated by expert scientists. The process will produce baby oysters. These baby oysters will be submerged in water, either freshwater or saltwater depending on the oyster’s need, usually surrounded by coral reefs in a private area.

After the oysters have matured for pearl cultivation, scientists will plant the nucleus of the pearl one by one. This process is called nucleation. The scientists will wait for 1 to 2 years for the finished bead to be produced. The finished beads will then be graded according to its luster, nacre thickness, size, shape, and color. After grading, the uniform beads are grouped to make the cultured pearl necklaces. These cultured pearl necklaces are inexpensive compared to their natural counterparts. Certified jewelers know the real value of these treasures but a natural pear necklace looks just the same as a cultured one.

For pearl enthusiasts who have extreme fondness on dark colored pearl beads, a Tahitian pearl necklace is a likely choice. These naturally dark pearl beads are native to the island of Tahiti from its black-lipped oysters. Tahiti pearls are usually black, gray or greenish black. These pearl beads are perfect for Tahitian pearl necklace. Since common freshwater and saltwater oysters can’t normally produce dark tinted beads, Tahitian pearls are the sought after.

When buying Tahitian pearl necklace, check the thickness of its nacre. A good quality bead must have at least 0.88 mm nacre thickness. This is an important factor to consider in the purchase as thick nacres hold pearl luster for a long time.

An educated buyer will also check if the Tahitian pearl necklace has beads with good surface quality and smooth texture. A closer look at each bead will tell if the beads are free from flaws. The smoother beads’ surface means higher pearl quality.

In buying a pearl jewelry, a grade from a certified jeweler will help the buyer to pick up the best choice. Jewelers will grade a pearl either A, B, C or D. Pearls with grade A have almost flawless bead surface with uniform coloration minus spots and dents.

A high grade Tahitian pearl necklace must also have excellent brilliance grade. When they are subjected to light, they release a soft reflection of light like that of a mirror. Buyer should also consider the size and shape of the beads. A near perfect bead has no bumps and usually has oval size.

Aside from diamonds, pearls are women’s best friend too. Pearls are elegant and stylish even with any type of dress. It would look good on a party dress. It would still look good on formal attire. Because of this chameleon characteristic, pearl jewelries never fail to make that loved one smile.

Pearl earrings tend to go more costly as it becomes darker, larger, thicker, and rounder.

In ancient past, the value of pearl beads is high and considered to be possessions of the affluent only. In the modern world, the value of pearls never depreciated and is as esteemed by women today similar to the acceptance of Egyptian and European royalties. Black pearl necklaces are included in this love story. Black pearls are a breath of rarity and demureness of the white counterparts. Black pearl necklaces are a welcome addition to any women’s jewelry chest and would definitely look good on any dress.

They are known as Tahitian pearls because the beads are believed to be cultivated on the island of Tahiti only. This myth is not true because the Chinese already invented a cultivation technique to propagate black pearls on pearl farms. As long as one owns the proper oysters, he can cultivate black pearls on his own.

Contrary to myth, Tahitian pearls can now be cultivated anywhere. Experts propagate little pearl oysters first and submerge them in water for months. A lot of these baby oysters will die in the process making the survivors only the qualified manufacturers of pearls.

Even with advanced technology, black pearls suitable for pearl necklaces must be cultivated inside Pintada Margaritifera Cumingi for two years. After cultivation period, the yield will not produce 100 percent grade A beads. Only 1 to 2 % of the yield will receive a grade A mark worthy of high value in the market.

Tahitian pearls with black-green tint are the most valued beads in the jewelry market today. With the difficulty in growing and yielding, uniform sized pearl necklaces are surely expensive.

If you want to express your growing affection for a girl, a classical pearl ring can speak volumes. Pearls are so versatile such that rings that contain them can be matched with a long double-row necklace that’s so trendy with fashionable teens right now, or with drop pearl earrings that add to a girl’s allure. Pearls come in numerous shapes & sizes, too. There are round pearls, oblong ones, and teardrop or irregularly shaped pearls, so recipients of pearl jewelry gifts or those who choose to buy at their own whim can add variety to a growing collection.
Classical pearl rings with sterling silver and 18k white gold protective layers can serve as special gifts for one’s mom, fiancée or wife.

Take elegance on a whole new level and use pearls not only as a necklace, earring or bracelet. Use beautiful and stunning pearl rings to complete your outfit.

Pearl rings come in many styles. Cocktail, engagement and simple rings are just a few. It also comes in different sizes and colors.

Cocktail pearl rings are the exquisitely designed and oversized rings which makes used of a large pearl. These are usually worn in gala events and formal gatherings. Cocktail rings are commonly seen in high-end events such as Oscars and Grammy’s.

Deviating from the traditional diamond engagement ring, pearls are also used in engagement rings. Pearls symbolize femininity, elegance and sophistication but in engagement rings, it also symbolizes loyalty, faith and innocence. Some pearl engagement rings include diamonds and other precious gems in its design to make it more beautiful and appealing.

Simple pearl rings usually have a plain band made of gold, silver or platinum with a pearl set in the middle. It does not contain elaborate designs but these are preferred as it symbolizes femininity and simplicity.

Caring for these pearls is necessary to prolong its use. Do not wear pearl rings while applying a cosmetic such as body lotions and perfumes. The chemicals in these cosmetics will most likely cause damage to the pearl. There are also fabrics (Shetland wool) that can scratch the surface of the pearl. It is recommended that clothing that has this type of fabric be avoided when wearing pearl rings.

If there are pieces of jewelry best known to accentuate the beauty of an arm, it will be bracelets. Bracelets follow the idea of a necklace as it is a strand worn around a part of the body. The difference is that necklaces are worn around the neck while bracelets are worn around the wrists. Bracelets are shorter in length compared to necklaces.

Bracelets can be made up of many materials. Expensive bracelets usually consist of precious metals such as gold, silver or platinum. It can be embellished with gems like diamonds and rubies. Pearls also stand out when it comes to bracelets.

Pearl bracelets are known for the elegance and beauty. The classic design of a pearl bracelet, just like pearl necklaces, is a single strand bearing the same color. Other designs use a chain made up of gold or silver and attach pearls as charms.

In buying pearl bracelets, one must be cautious about the quality of the pearls attached into it. In this case, the luster and surface matters. Size is dependent upon the preference of the buyer.

Color is another consideration. The color must compliment the skin tone of the wearer. Pearls come not only in white. It also comes in a variety of colors such as black, gray, pink and yellow. Pink will look best on fair skin tones. Darker skin tones usually look good on yellow pearls.

Pearl bracelets certainly have the elegance that will perfectly adorn the wrists. These round creations of nature emit a glow unlike other gems.

Black pearls exude beauty unlike other pearls. Its rare appearance plus the fact that it is uncommon makes it irresistible in the jewelry market. Black pearls come from different places such as Tahiti and Akoya.

Akoya pearls are produced by the oysters specifically thriving in a place called Akoya. The Akoya pearl sold nowadays are product of man’s continued research in the production of black pearls. Through the skillful hands of a culturist, a nucleus which shall form as the starting point for the formation of the pearl is inserted in the oyster. After such insertion, the main process which is the continued coating of the nucleus is commenced by the mollusk. A liquid is continuously secreted by the mollusk which later on hardens. The product is a lustrous Akoya pearl.

Though Akoya pearls are cultured, they are still considered rare. In order for the culturing process to be completely successful, the culturist must be highly skilled. He must know where to place the nucleus. Otherwise, the culturing process will be of no use as the mollusk will reject it. The production of Akoya pearls is indeed a time-consuming process that will require tremendous amount of patience.

The secret of the luster of Akoya pearls lie in the temperature of the water. Studies have shown that the shiniest pearls are produced from mollusks that thrive in waters that have cold temperature. The coolness of the water stimulates the mollusk to produce thicker secretions which forms as the shiny layers of the pearl.
